Iowa State RB To Transfer To UM

Yes I know I've been slacking on the news. And no it isn't because I have too much to do. I am quite simply lazy sometimes and didn't feel like reading through the mass of emails I get on a daily basis. But the hiatus is over folks!

From an athletic standpoint, this sounds like a great addition for the Griz. Greg Coleman didn't start last year (I don't believe - it is harder to find information on him than one would think), but he did rush 113 times for 410 yards and 2 TDs on a pretty good Iowa State squad. He will bring a lot of experience and even more talent to the Griz backfield.

Of course the big story surrounding this is Coleman's past. I'm not going to delve into that whole argument, but I will post what the hubbub is all about:

"Coleman and Williams [teammate] were arrested after a skirmish at Club Element in Ames. In 2003, in a separate case, he was found guilty of interference with official acts causing bodily injury, and for assaulting a police officer in Iowa City."

Coleman had been reinstated to the team before he requested a transfer.

    Dear Doug Fullerton,

While I can understand your concern regarding one year drop down transfers, I have to wonder why you haven't made a mention of transfers who do so because of legal issues.

Imagine this: the Griz make the I-AA playoffs. The announcers continually make reference to at least TWO Montana players who transferred to Missoula due to legal problems. These players didn't leave their I-A programs for a fresh start -- they were kicked off after breaking the law. Does the Big Sky (and I-AA) want this kind of publicity? Is a Josh Swogger or Matt Guttierez really more undesirable as a player than these transfers?

Well, Mr. Fullerton, you go ahead and continue to fight the battles which don't matter. Meanwhile, at least one of the teams continues its trek to I-A football (win at any cost), and could care less what you do anyway.

In response to the first comment: I doubt the announcers would be that tactless. Unlike your post. Which transfers were "kicked off"? I know Coleman was reinstated at ISU before he transferred. Why?

Want to know about Greg Coleman? Look up his rap sheet in Johnson County Iowa.
